PROLOTHERAPY
Prolotherapy is known by many different names - Tendon Reconstruction, Proliferative Therapy, Regenerative Joint Injection and Non-Surgical Ligament. Prolotherapy is a widely utilized and recognized orthopedic procedure that athletes and others are reaping the benefits. Prolotherapy stimulates your body’s own healing processes to strengthen, repair damaged and painful joints and connective tissue. When tendons, connective tissue and ligaments are torn or stretched, the joint they are holding becomes painful and unstable. Prolotherapy with all of it’s splendor has the ability to produce new collagen tissue, strengthen the weakened areas and stabilize the joint. Amazingly, once there is stability in the joint, the pain ceases.
CONDITIONS TREATED WITH PROLOTHERAPY:
- Deep Aching
- Whiplash
- Arthritis
- Back Pain
- Herniated Discs
- Neck Pain
- Disc Herniation
- Sports Injuries
AMNIOTIC ALLOGRAFT
Amniotic Allograft is yet another option to increase the effectiveness of treating pain. The more common name is Stem Cells, but Amniotic Allograft, Biologic Allograft are more accurate names. Amniotic Allograft is derived from the layer of placenta of a planned Caesarean section donated from consenting patients. The FDA, American Association of Tissue Banks and internal testing sets forth rigorous screening guidelines for the placenta to be recovered and processed.
The amniotic derived fluid contains cytokines and growth factors that play vital roles in soft tissue repair. The cytokines and growth factors are necessary in the body’s own regeneration and healing. Amniotic derived fluid has shown to be beneficial for a number of applications.
CONDITIONS TREATED WITH AMNIOTIC ALLOGRAFT:
- Chronic pain
- Bursitis
- Osteoarthritis
- Ruptured Achilles Tendon
- Tears in shoulder
- Knees & hips
- Ligament & tendon repair
- Plantar Fasciitis
PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP)
Have you heard people talking about PRP? In the medical arena, it is a word that is frequently heard. What exactly is PRP? Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP is essentially blood plasma that contain concentrated platelets. These concentrated platelets found in PRP contain reservoirs of bioactive proteins which includes growth factors that are capable of initiating and accelerating tissue repair and regeneration. These bioactive proteins promote the development of new blood vessels, stimulate wound and initiate connective tissue healing in tendons, ligaments and bones.
HOW IS (PRP) PREPARED?
Blood is collected from a patient (usually antecubital or forearm), then placed in a device called the Centrifuge for about 20 minutes. In the centrifuge the blood is separated and the components are separated out to create the PRP. The PRP is then drawn into syringes and injected into ligaments or tendons. The process triggers the inflammatory cascade which eventually promotes repair and regeneration of those joints.
CONDITIONS TREATED WITH PRP:
- Arthritis or osteoarthritis
- Ligament sprains or tears
- Muscle strains
- Sports injuries
- Tendon rupture
- Stiffness and loss of flexibility / range of motion
- Bulging or herniated discs
- Instability / loss of balance
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Tendonitis Sciatica (sciatic nerve pain)
- Plantar fasciitis
- Chronic pain
Note: PRP is even used in aesthetics and hair restoration
TRIGGER POINT INJECTIONS (TPI)
Have you ever felt a palpable nodule in your neck, shoulder or upper back area? The trigger point/knots generally are tender to touch and pain radiates when they are pushed.
TPIs is another approach to treating pain when your muscles are painful and are in knots (trigger points). The “trigger point”/knots” occur when the muscles have been overused, stretched or injured. TPIs treats the painful muscle areas by injecting a small amount of a local anesthetic (numbing solution) directly into the painful area. The local anesthetic will numb the injected areas and decrease the muscle spasm, thus relieving the pain almost immediately. Common areas of “trigger points/knots” are the muscles in the back – trapezius, rhomboid and shoulders. These areas of “trigger points/knots”can cause headaches, shoulder and neck pain.
CONDITIONS TREATED BY TPIs
- Myofascial pain
- Poor posture
- Overuse injury
- Headaches
- Tension from stress
