An Alternative Cure for Pain: Biopuncture
How does biopuncture work?
Biopuncture is a safe and effective therapy utilizing homeopathic medicines to stimulate the natural self-healing abilities of the body. These homeopathic formulas are injected into specific body regions to relieve pain/inflammation and promote healing. The injections are with a small needle just under the skin or sometimes into a muscle.
In conventional medicine, the medication you take suppresses your symptoms immediately. That is why you need to take high doses of chemical substances in order to suppress pain or inflammation. But as soon as the medication stops working, you have to take another pill to “kill the pain” again.
However, in biopuncture, small doses are injected in order to stimulate or “wake up” the natural healing processes. The healing effect comes from inside your body – not from the products themselves; it’s the reaction of your immune system which will produce the proper reactions to regain natural healing.
What is injected?
The most commonly injected products are micro-doses of mainly medicinal plant and mineral based products (homeopathic). The plant and mineral derived formulas were introduced in Germany in the 1930s. Currently, more than 100 million injectable vials are used per year throughout Europe and in the United States.
What conditions are typically treated with biopuncture?
The common factor is pain and inflammation; this could occur in a joint, or the lining of the respiratory or gastrointestinal tract. Each of these tissues has nerves that become chronically inflamed and lead to pain and inflammation. Conditions treated include:
- sprains and strains
- joint pain
- tendonitis
- arthritis
- shoulder pain
- nerve pain
- residual pain following surgery
- migraine headaches
- irritable bowel…
How safe and effective is biopuncture as compared to conventional treatments?
Over the counter and prescription Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and steroid injections may not help, and with long term use may cause harm. NSAIDs should only be used short term, 1-2 weeks. Long term use is associated with increased risk of gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, and kidney complications. Also, research indicates that use of NSAIDs may interfere with the normal tissue repair process and ultimately weaken the tissue and increase the chances of a recurrent problem.Biopuncture produces no such effects and actually promotes healing thus reducing the chances of a recurrent problem.
What can a patient expect from biopuncture treatment?
Many people are surprised by how well they tolerate the injections. Very small needles are used for the majority of injections. The number of injections per session depends on the nature and severity of your problem.
A typical treatment takes about 10 minutes and the number of treatments you will need varies according to the condition. Often, treatments are once weekly for 3 – 6 weeks. You should notice improvement after the first treatment, sometimes by the time the treatment is complete.
What are the risks of treatment?
The most common adverse effects after treatment are a small red area after injection or a small bruise. Serious side effects are extremely rare.
Can biopuncture be combined with other treatments?
For many patients it may be best to combine treatments. When you are being treated with biopuncture, you may continue the medications you already take. For orthopedic problems, biopuncture can be combined with chiropractic manipulation and other techniques. Nutritional status is also of course a big component to recovery and you may be placed on a diet and supplement regime to optimize healing, IV nutrient therapy can be very helpful for pain, as well as specific botanical preparations.
There are many ways to help lessen and often cure pain, and biopuncture has proven to be one of the very effective ways to take your pain away and improve your daily living.
